Widgets are little boxes of functionality you can quickly and easily install onto your website that are actually hosted on a different website.  The mortgage calculator on the right is a perfect example.  You could also have a news feed or an advertising banner on your website without having to code the actual functionality yourself.

In most cases, people put these widgets along the sidebar of their website.  With this theme, there is only one sidebar and it’s on the left-hand side.  Keep in mind that you can easily change the theme of your website.  Anyway, these widgets are generally the same of each page and can add a lot of personality and gadgets to your platform.

There are also a number of stock widgets that are already available on this platform, including a search box, tag cloud, recent posts, categories and archives.  You’ll notice we’ve already included a couple of these on the sidebar, along with a news feed and two custom graphics.  You can change any of these and add others as well.

First, login to your Dashboard and click [Design] and then [Widgets].  You’ll see a list of stock widgets along the left-hand side and you can click [Add] beside any of them to include them to the list of active widgets on the right-hand side.  We also recommend you click on [Edit] on a few of the active widgets to see the code behind them.

There are more and more custom widgets being created every day and you can see thousands of them by visiting the WidgetBox website.  There, you can search for your keywords and find countless widgets available for you to include on your own website.  In each case, it will give you a piece of code that you can copy and paste into a Text widget.
